<p class="MsoNormal">I’ve been giving the task of figuring out
how to monitor our entire VMware environment that’s running
vSphere 4.1. I’ve been playing around with Nagios and so far I
really like it’s flexibility, but for me that also means there
is going to be a big learning curve because it seems like in
order to get exactly what I want, I’m also going to have to
learn Perl and write some plugins. I’ve been using the
check_esx plugin that’s up on the exchange but it doesn’t do *<b>exactly</b>*
what I’d like. I’d like to pull performance metrics from
vCenter because VMware specifies that as best practice. Also,
it would be nice if Nagios would automatically add any new
hosts that are added to the environment.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Is there a plugin floating around out there
that already addresses these points and I just haven’t come
across it? How big of a task am I undertaking here? Any words
of advice or suggestions on how I should tackle this?<o:p></o:p></p>
