[Nagiosplug-help] mak all on solaris 8 /9

when compiling pluggins I get the following error:
make[1]: Entering directory `/temp/nagios-plugins-1.3.0-beta2/plugins'
ar -r libsnprintf.a snprintf.o
make[1]: ar: Command not found
make[1]: *** [libsnprintf.a] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/temp/nagios-plugins-1.3.0-beta2/plugins'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1


I know that gcc is in the path..

any ideas ???
