[Nagiosplug-help] make error with 1.3b1 plugins

I get the following error on Debian 3.0

/bin/sh: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file
make: *** [aclocal.m4] Error 2

Using GNU Make 3.79.1
install (fileutils) v4.1
gcc v2.95.4

Any ideas?  I also got this on Mandrake 8.0 FWIW.
