glad to see my recommendations are followed ;)

As for HP-UX, I don't have right now a system under hand to test, but I
remember that defining _HPUX_SOURCE helps greatly when compiling.

$ CFLAGS="-O2 -whateverflagsyouwant -D_HPUX_SOURCE" ./configure
$ make
