[Nagiosplug-help] NAGIOS fails to start: could not find status log: /var/log/nagios/status.log

Hi,

I run nagios 1.0 from the RPM on sourceforge. After my server rebooted due 
to a hardware fialure I can not get nagios back. If I restart nagios from 
the init.d script I get:

# service nagios restart
Running configuration check...done
Stopping network monitor: nagios
/etc/init.d/nagios: line 66: kill: (898) - No such process
Starting network monitor: nagios
NAGIOS CRITICAL - could not find status log: /var/log/nagios/status.log
# cd /var/log/nagios
# ls -l
total 28
drwxr-xr-x    2 nagios   nagios       4096 Mar  9 00:00 archives
-rw-rw-r--    1 nagios   nagios          0 Mar  8 12:26 comment.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 nagios   nagios          0 Mar  6 13:49 downtime.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 nagios   nagios      12328 Mar  9 18:35 nagios.log
-rw-r--r--    1 nagios   nagios       4488 Mar  9 18:35 status.sav

Any suggestion to get nagios back up and running again? I tried copying 
files, touching them, but failed to fix the issue.
