[Nagiosplug-help] restart service on remote host

Has anyone used the Nagios event handler to restart failed services on a remote Linux/Unix host? 
How? RPC? NRPE?
I need details..

We monitor several remote hosts with critical services. It would be nice if Nagios could restart them if they fail.

The documentation only describes restarting services on the local server but falls short of describing any kind of remote control.
