As others have said, you can use the check_log on Linux, but for Windows
Eventlog Monitoring you can use NRPE_NT. There are a few plug-ins
available for it to monitor the Eventlog, one of which I wrote in .NET
that'll also filter the messages based on a string you pass in, or you
can negate that to only get logs with that string. So you can just get
messages with "zone transfer failed" in it if you wanted. Here's a link
