[Nagiosplug-help] check-host-alive Status UNKNOWN

i have a fresh install of Nagios 1.2 and the nagios-plugins-1.3.1, i have 36 
hosts i need to keep track of

i have it working, and i thought i would start with running the 
check-host-alive on all hosts

the Host Detail page in Nagios shows that they are all up

but the Service Detail page shows everyone of them with a Status UNKNOWN 
with check_ping: %s: Warning threshold must be integer or percentage! in the 
Status Information colum

any ideas as to where my configuration problem is?
