[Nagiosplug-help] Nagios Plugin freezing on configure

I was hoping that someone here may be able to help me out.  I am
currently trying to install the nagios plugins (nagios-plugins-1.4) on
one of our linux servers.  
When I run the ./configure, all appears to run well until it tries to do
the check for ICMP ping syntax.
At this point, the installation simply freezes, and nothing happens.
I have tried searching through this list, as well as google, but have
not found anything.
Any help is appreciated.
