[Nagiosplug-help] check_ntp compile error

I am trying to install 1.4.5 .  I am getting a compile error for
check_ntp.c:
 
   check_ntp.c:295:  invalid operands to binary &
 
I am running Debian 3.0.  By the way, I don't really need check_ntp on
this system.  If I can't fix the error, is there a switch so that I can
tell configure to not create a rule for it in the Makefile?
