[Nagiosplug-help] check_mailq

I'm running plugins 1.4.9 and nrpe 2.8.1 on a RHEL 5 64bit host and the 
check mailq seems to work fine on the local host:

[root at mail001 ~]# /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_mailq -w 20 -c 50
OK: mailq (17) is below threshold (20/50)|unsent=17;20;50;0
[root at mail001 ~]#

But when I try it from nrpe from the nagios server I get this:

ms1 ~ # /usr/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H mail001 -c check_mailq
CRITICAL: Error code 78 returned from /usr/bin/mailq
ms1 ~ # nano -w /etc/nagios/commands.cfg

I've done some googling but can't seem to come up with anything.

The nagios system isn't a 64 bit OS but I don't think that makes a 
difference sense I'm passing through nrpe. There are other nrpe checks 
that work just fine on this host.

Anyone have any ideas?
